Consumer Privacy Statement

Welcome to MediaMelon.com, a site that enhances your digital video experience on the web. We at MediaMelon value the privacy of our users, members and others who use mediamelon.com and its services which includes the MediaMelon client (MMClient), a downloadable application that enables users to view content on our website. It is very important that you read and understand our Privacy Statement. If you do not accept the terms set out here, please do not use the MediaMelon Service. We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time about which you will be notified through the website itself or otherwise.

Information Collected and How Its Handled

To ensure availability of all features and functionalities of MediaMelon, registration is required on the part of the user. When you access the site for the first time, MediaMelon collects your email address and a password that you voluntarily provide in case (i) you want to apply for membership, or (ii) you want to view videos and other content on MediaMelon recommended to you by the registered users.

It is not possible to watch videos without using our MMClient service (which requires you to register) and hence, no personally identifiable information is collected in this case. After registering, MediaMelon also collects other user-generated information which include a valid "username" (usually the name of the user), a "device-name" that identifies the machine where the MMClient was installed. You can also choose to send us information about the storage space you want to provide for MediaMelon downloads even though a default setting is kept in your account. MediaMelon checks and stores the available disk space on your machine in our database.

Some information is also collected automatically without your explicit consent. This includes "non-personally-identifiable" data such as your IP address, browser type, platform or operating system type, browser plugins information and the date and time of your visit. We feel its important to record information about your usage of the content on our website such as the videos you watch and how often you watch that video; the channels and favourites you subscribe to; the contacts you communicate with while sharing videos; the size of data transfers and frequency of video downloads. Our server logs collect these data to understand trends and track your movements through the website. Besides that, our MMCLient stays active on your computer (unless you command it to stop running in the background) and is designed to send non-personally identifiable information including the download status of the videos that you have added. This means that even if you sign out of MediaMelon and stop using the browser, the software will continue to retrieve the requested video data from our servers. So the next time you log in you may get to see the added video sans delays or jitters!

MediaMelon uses cookies to store visitor preferences and session information. A "cookie" is a small file containing a string of alphanumeric characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a website . This helps us in improving the quality of our service by tracking user trends and patterns of how people search. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.

Please note that any video, blog entry, or other content posted at MediaMelon by direct upload or through your channel becomes publicly-available content, and is not considered personally identifiable information subject to this Privacy Statement, and may be added and used by others. However, if you're a private kind of person and want to share your personal videos with a select group like your family or close friends, MediaMelon takes care of your concern by providing you with a "private channel" feature. Here, you can create a channel or use one of your existing channels and render it "private". Any video that you upload through this channel will be available only to the people who have subscribed to your channel.
