    1. What is MediaMelon?

MediaMelon is a Internet TV application that makes watching good quality videos easier and more enjoyable. We bring you great shows at the best possible picture quality and create a new way to watch TV.

    2. How is it different from other video sites ?

It is unlikely that you would be able to see high-quality videos on several sites, such as YouTube, because the technology that they use (streaming video) cannot ensure that the video quality will be good. MediaMelon's technology is based on video downloads, which means that the videos you see are guaranteed to be at their original quality. If you subscribe to your favorite channels on MediaMelon, you will get the episodes within those channels automatically, as soon as new episodes are published

    3. How do I benefit from using MediaMelon?

You could see TV shows and movies without any jitters and delays using MediaMelon. And whats more, you can view them in high quality! You could also create your own channel and even create a private channel for viewing within your family or circle of friends.

    4. Does it cost money to use MediaMelon?

It is free to use MediaMelon. Most of the videos are for free. There are some premium videos and channels that cost money, but we will be sure to inform you clearly about such paid videos.

    5. How does MediaMelon work?

MediaMelon is a video delivery network. You have to install a plug-in on the computer where you wish to view MediaMelon videos. The plug-in ensures that the videos are kept encrypted (so that the content owners can be comfortable in providing videos to get published on MediaMelon). The plug-in also has the intelligence to automatically record videos as and when the friends in your network refer videos to you. In addition, when videos are published to channels that you have subscribed to, those videos automatically get downloaded and are available.

    6. Do i need a software to work with MediaMelon?

Yes, you will need to run the "mediamelon.exe" installer file that is downloaded during registration and install this on your machine. Besides that you will need the vlc plugin (http://www.videolan.org/) for your browser which will require you to install the vlc multimedia player.

    7. What are channels?

Channels contain episodic videos, such as TV shows. If you subscribe to a channel, then as new videos get published on that channel, they are automatically recorded for you.

    8. Where do i find channels ?

All channels are listed in "Media Guide" page after you click on the channel link on the top-left side of the page. You can even use the search function to look for channels or the type of videos you have in mind.

    9. Can I publish my own videos or channels?

Yes, you can publish videos on MediaMelon as a way to share with your friends or for people all over the world to see. You can also create a channel and when you publish videos within that channel, all the subscribers to those channels will automatically get those videos.

You could invite users to your channel; and you can make your channel private.

You can see how many subscribers you have for your channel, how many times people have seen your videos, and various other interesting statistics.

    10. Can i organize videos in channels?

Yes, MediaMelon provides channels with and without privacy features enabled for them. The channels that are private will contain videos that will be viewable only to the members of the channel. Otherwise, the videos are publicly available on your channel. You can also move videos from one channel to another or remove a video from your channel and place it as an independent public video.

    11. What if I am on a different computer from the one where I installed the plug-in ?

You would need the plug-in installed before you can view the videos. However you can subscribe to channels, add videos, or refer videos to friends from a different computer.

If you wish to change the computer where you view MediaMelon videos, please reinstall the plug-in in the other computer, by following this link.(Note: You have to be logged in to as a registered user to download the plugin)

    12. Will I be able to play the videos if I am on a different computer ?

    13. I installed the plugin on this computer, but I am still not able to play the videos. What should I do?

To get a new plugin, please click here (Note: You have to be logged in to as a registered user to download the plugin)

    15. Can i view videos if i am working behind a university/company firewall?

Sorry! but we currently don't support users who are behind firewalls. But we'll soon have a system in place that'll take care of this issue.

    16. How can i upload a video?

Uploading your video to MediaMelon couldn't be easier. Just click "Quick Upload" at the "Publish" page and follow the instructions.

    17. Do i need to transcode/compress videos before uploading them to MediaMelon?

Not necessarily! If you have captured digital movies on your camcorder or digital camera, you copy the movies to you computer, and then you can either upload them unaltered or edit them with software such as iMovie or Windows MovieMaker to add titles and special effects before adding them to your account. No need to go through the hassles of compressing video files!

    18. Is there a size limit for the video i upload?

No there is no size limit. You can upload as big a file you want !

    19. What file formats do you accept?

The media we provide is played through the vlc multimedia player, and hence, its dependent on the vlc-plugin. However, this player can play all kinds of media formats including .mov, .mkv, .mp4, .avi, .divx etc.

    20. How long will it take to upload a video? Do i have to wait for the uploading to finish?

The time it takes to upload depends on the internet connection speed and the size of the uploading file. If you have a large file, and that would be the case with high-definition videos, it may take several minutes to upload. But hey, don't sweat it! You don't have to sit and wait for the uploading process to complete. You can carry on navigating our site, watch and enjoy the videos you have already added or even sign out of MediaMelon! As long as the net connection is alive, the MediaMelon plugin will take care of the files you have added in the upload (or download) share.

    21. Where is my video after upload?

All your uploaded videos will be published on "MyMedia" page and will be publicly (or privately, if you want) available for others to view.

    22. My hard disk space has decreased after i added a video. Why?

That is because the video you added is downloaded to your computer. So the space decreases by an amount equivalent to the size of the video file added. But don't worry, you can always go to the "account settings" on the top of the page and manage the hard disk space you want to provide to MediaMelon.

    23. How can i delete a video?

Videos are usually automatically deleted within 10 days of adding them to your account (please check "account settings" on the top of the page to enable/disable this feature). Otherwise you can delete them by clicking the "remove" button on the video image overlay (when you move your mouse over the video image). Or you can also delete videos by clicking the "delete video" button available when you view the video details.

    24. Can i post a video to my blog?

Yes, just paste the melonize code (for the video) shown under video details in your blog !

    25. How can i make a video fullscreen? How can i bring it back to normal screen from a full screen?

When you watch a video, make it fit the screen by clicking on the rectangular shaped icon at the bottom right of the player page. To bring the video back to normal mode from a full screen mode, press the ESC key on your keyboard.

    26. How do i use the widget interface?

The widget bar in the bottom has three buttons: "Fetch HD or Play", "Share" and "Link"

      • Fetch HD : Clicking this will start downloading the high-definition version of the video from the mediamelon servers. You will see the status of the downloading video on the widget screen as you move your mouse over it. Once downloading is complete the "fetch HD" button will automatically change to "Play" which will enable you to watch in high resolution.
      • Share : This will open input boxes on the widget screen where you can enter the emails of people with whom you want to share that video. Optionally you can type in a few words for the receiver about why you want to share the video with him or her.
      • Link : This will show you various bookmarking links which you can use to add this video to your favourites through the bookmarking sites and also let others on the web know about this high-definition video. The text box below the links is the embed code for blogs or your personal sites

    27. Can i have this widget on my blog?

Definitely! Just click on "Link" and copy the contents of the text box shown on widget screen in your blog code.

    28. I cannot see the widget on my browser. Why is that?

You'll need to have your browser flash enabled. You should see a message for the same in the widget area. In case you don't know what the problem is, type "about:plugins" (without quotes) on your mozilla-based browsers and see if theres an entry for "Shockwave Flash". On Internet Explorer browsers, go to "Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-ons" and check if shockwave flash object is enabled. If not, then install the latest flash player 9 from Adobe.
